Thank you for visiting our website! We invite you to join us
during our monthly meetings and become a member of our chapter.
Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, usually during
lunch with some exceptions, and include a variety of professional
development topics. Locations vary throughout the Houston Gulf Coast
area allowing our supplier members to showcase their properties and
planner members to view different sites in a relaxed social
atmosphere. Check the calendar of events for the latest information
regarding meeting locations and educational topics.
Organization Profile
The Society of Government Meeting Professionals, established in
October 1981, is a national non-profit professional organization of
individuals involved in planning local, state or federal government
meetings – either on a full- or part-time basis – and those
individuals who supply services to government planners. SGMP is
dedicated to improving the knowledge and expertise of these
individuals through education, training and industry relationships.
Chapter Profile
The Houston Gulf Coast Chapter of SGMP chartered on December 5, 2006.
We offer a variety of opportunities for members to get involved,
including multiple leadership tasks, monthly education programs,
community service projects, regional and national conferences, annual
holiday party with silent auction, and – soon to come – a chapter
newsletter. Involvement with this beneficial organization can improve
your work productivity and help to build relationships with other
government planners and suppliers in your community.
Chapter Mission and Goals
• Pair established, active members with new and potential members to
help acclimate them to all the benefits of SGMP membership.
• Motivate and encourage members and non-members to become involved
in chapter and national activities by presenting outstanding
educational programs.
• Increase participation and visibility in community service
activities.
• Acknowledge and award as many members as possible for the
contributions to the growth and success of the chapter
• Offer full or partial scholarships to each qualified application
to attend the national conference by revaluation of our silent auction
program and other fundraisers.
